Creating a Cozy Oasis: Your Guide to Fall & Winter Home Decor

I know I’m not the only one, but fall and early winter are my favorite seasons! It’s the crisp, fresh smell in the air, the nights where you open your window for the cool breeze, enjoy the fresh, warm coffee or tea in the morning, and most of all, the snuggling in our cozy and warm blankets to set the mood for a nice relaxing evening. So, let’s cozy up together because we’re going to talk about home decor for fall/winter and how we can get through the colder seasons together!

Does anyone have a friend whose house you walk into and immediately feel content and relaxed? Whenever I go to my friend’s house, we relax in her living room, chat and maybe take a catnap. She has the cutest, goofiest Frenchie named Lucy and this girl is a snuggle bug! So, for my photographs, I thought, why not incorporate the love of coziness with our best pet friends?

From Pantone Palettes to Pet Snuggles: Crafting Your Cozy Home

I wanted to consider what made us feel cozy, comfortable, warm, and at peace. I looked at the new Pantone colors for fall and winter 2023, and I enjoyed the colors quite a bit for this season. The Pantone Color Institute studies trends throughout the year to decide on each season’s colors. Pantone will also consider the current state of the world and politics, pop culture, and fashion.

For example, it’s no coincidence that their color palettes include a light pink color they call “Nosegay” and a sort of deep fuchsia pink they call “Rose Violet.” Barbie even has its own Pantone color! Now, I’m not saying to decorate your house in all pink, but I find the color palettes refreshing! Here’s some the color palette (below). I love the jewel tones; they are powerful and exquisite to me.

Set the Mood: Cozying Up Your Home for Fall and Winter

If you’re not someone who feels like they can just go out and do it on their own, don’t worry. I’m here to help! Let’s start easy; what are some things that will make your home feel cozy? Easy! I love a soft, cozy texture and comfy blankets, quilts or throws, but I’m also a sucker for a good wool blanket. Don’t leave your couch bare; plush pillows are also a great way to bring that cozy vibe!

Next are scents and candles that give us the feeling of warmth, calm and tranquility. I love using candles (fake ones too) to make my living room or bedroom more of a moody feeling. Low light can make your room feel serene.

Lower light or natural light can also set the mood for your home; a dimmer switch or different strengths of light can add to that tranquil feeling. Even the bulb you put into your lamps can create a cozier feeling. Install bulbs in certain areas of the home that give a warmer light instead of cooler.

Warmth, Comfort, and Style: Fall/Winter Home Decor Ideas

Now, we can set the scene. When we open our eyes and look at our home, we want to see things that give us happiness and joy.

I really love the corner Lucy is in with more neutral and natural elements, plants, different textures from the white throw, carpet and chair, and then warm wood furniture.

Decorating our home to feel cozy for the fall and winter does not need to be costly. In the photo with my cat Aurora, I found the bedspread at a sale.

I love the beautiful, deep jewel tones and colors. The headboard was from Facebook Marketplace, warm with beautiful grain. The lamp is from Boulevard Mercantile and gives a moody vibe. The blue swag glass made me fall in love with her and goes well with the candles. Curtains are from an estate sale and have the jewel tones again. Aurora was from the animal shelter!

Even though Pantone comes out with color trends every year, they aren’t anything new that we haven’t ever seen in the past. When I started diving into the decor trends for fall/winter ’23, it seems like the mixing of old and new, and sustainability was not going away anytime soon (hopefully never). I think it’s just becoming more accepted over time and will hopefully just become the norm.

Many of us are starting to recognize that we all overconsume, so first and foremost, let’s begin with environmentally friendly options, such as vintage and thrift, which can be found in our own backyard. An added perk is supporting small businesses, win/win. Many businesses also offer many ideas and designs to help you on your path to making your home cozy-ready.

This will give you a great start to the season! Sit back, relax, grab a coffee or tea, and snuggle up with a book, your favorite show, and your fur-baby!
