  • 🥹 Finally feeling better!!!! I’m so grateful for my care team. Asthma is no joke sometimes. There are so many days that I go through easily, but when it gets bad and I need an adjustment to my medication, oh my goodness! Thank you so much to all of you for your well-wishes. ♥️

Despite the health excitement, our holiday break was so much fun. We had several out-of-town friends and family to love on and my heart is so full. I will finally be back at my usual schedule tomorrow, and in the meantime I am so enjoying my cozy view from home!!!! Beyond grateful for the snow and getting a little more holiday sparkle up around here. ❄️

  • They don’t have a social media page yet, so check it out before everyone else finds it! Tokyo Sushi just opened in Spokane Valley and it’s already giving “new favorite spot” energy. Its where Toro Sushi used to be for those who remember!

I started with the omakase appetizer. It’s fresh, delicate, beautifully done, and sets the tone for the whole meal. And please don’t skip the miso. It’s one of those bowls that makes you stop and say, “Wait… why is this SO good?”

The rolls are where things get fun. The Hawaii roll is a little tropical with pineapple, and I’m into it. The Walla Walla roll leans into that crispy shrimp/cream cheese thing we love. Everything feels intentional, balanced, and crafted with care.

If you’re craving a new go-to sushi spot, this is your moment. Tokyo Sushi is officially open at 328 N Sullivan Road, and their hours make it way too easy to drop in.

Hours:
Mon–Thu: 11 AM–9:30 PM | Fri: 11 AM–10:30 PM | Sat: 12:30 PM–10:30 PM | Sun: 12:30 PM–9 PM.

Ten years ago, Rob and I were in Hollywood cheering on @bindisueirwin and @derekhough for the both nights of the finale of @dancingwiththestars, and it only gave us more respect for the show, the pros, and especially the crew that moves every single set piece to completely transformed the ballroom during commercial breaks. It was an absolutely astounding feat. I was especially excited to take along my beloved Aunt Mary Pat and her sister in law, and seeing their excitement match mine was truly a gift!!! My favorite kind of surprise is one that isn’t something you can buy. Just genuine love and connection!

It goes without saying that we are cheering on @robertirwinphotography to bring home the disco ball trophy. Go get ‘em, tiger!!!!

Who else is watching?! Who are you rooting for?

❤️‍🩹 I think we can all agree that navigating the healthcare system is very difficult these days. 🫠

A little update on me for those who have been following along: some of you may know that I have severe, debilitating asthma. It started when I was in my early teens, and has continued to progress throughout my life to the point where if I don’t have a specific medication, or if I get any kind of cold, I am down for the count HARD. It is no fun at all!

A couple of weeks ago I went to get my heavy duty inhaler refilled only to be told by my insurance that I wouldn’t be able to refill it for a couple of weeks. Every single day without it is *completely miserable*. Imagine breathing through a tiny latte straw exclusively, all day and night. It makes even doing the smallest tasks very difficult.

I was finally able to get in touch with insurance and my care team to get them to send over the prescription, only to find out that the pharmacy I normally use no longer accepts my insurance. Then, I had to have it sent over to a new pharmacy. The new one didn’t have any in stock and had to special order it.

It still hasn’t arrived. They insist that it will be on the truck tonight, but I had to get some additional relief today because I just could not breathe.

All of it is so preventable. I just need my medication, and I am insured! I can only imagine the nightmare that people without insurance have to experience on a daily basis.

It all leads me to imagine how many lives are lost unnecessarily due to preventable circumstances surrounding access to care and access to life-saving medicine.

Maybe someday we’ll be like the rest of the developed nations that are wise enough to have universal healthcare. Until then, I suppose we continue to muddle through. ❤️‍🩹
