Keep Your Skincare Routine

When we asked her about her top tips for combatting dry skin as we transition into the colder and more dry fall and winter seasons, Alexi shared that it really came down to three simple steps: exfoliating, double cleansing, and using a good moisturizer!

Exfoliating is an important step in keeping your skin healthy, but you can overdo it. Alexi recommends you exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Pro-tip: if your makeup is looking or feeling flaky it’s a good sign that you should be exfoliating again! Our skin turns over while we sleep at night, but if we don’t remove our dry dead skin cells, our fresh beautiful skin will be hidden underneath leading to poor makeup application and uncomfortable skin.

To keep away the scaly, peeling, caked on makeup Alexi shared her favorite chemical exfoliant which is: Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel! You can grab yours here.

Alexi also shared about the importance of double cleansing for your skin’s health. You might be asking what it means to double cleanse and you wouldn’t be alone. Luckily she shared how to make sure you are including this important step in your skincare routine. Double cleansing literally means cleaning your face twice.  The first cleanse removes makeup and pollutants. This can be done using a cleanser or makeup remover that are oil-based. The second cleanse actually cleans your skin. She recommends a cream-based cleanser and avoids any cleanser that has any bead-like exfoliants to avoid over-exfoliating and damaging skin.

The final step in your skincare routine is moisturizing! This is for all skin types. When someone who has more oily skin forgets to use a moisturizer their skin can over-produce oil to compensate for that lack of moisture. This can lead to an oily appearance and issues with the longevity of their makeup. If you are someone who struggles with dry skin and you forget a moisturizer, you will also struggle with your makeup application. When you go to apply your foundation or tinted moisturizer, you may find that you need to use more because your skin is so dehydrated that it will soak up all the moisture before providing the coverage you’re looking for!

Enjoy a DIY Facial At Home

You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a spa day. There are so many easy spa routines and high-quality products you can use in your own home. Light a candle, put on your fluffiest robe and get down to some of your favorite music while you pamper yourself.

If you don’t know where to start with products that will work well with your skin, it is important to go to a well-educated med spa, salon, or licensed esthetician. This is because they are better trained in the science behind ingredients, formulas, and skin type needs. As much as we love influencers and friends, they may not always be the best source of information because they may not know about all of your needs and will likely only be sharing their personal experience with products. Retail workers are also likely going to be sharing their own experiences and may be receiving monetary compensation for pushing certain products that may not be your best option.

What It’s Like Being a Top Spokane Beauty Professional

As if she wasn’t busy enough, Alexi agreed to contribute to the very first print edition of Trending Northwest Magazine. In that article, she will be sharing her top tips for remembering to pamper yourself, especially when life feels overwhelming!

Many 2019 engagements whose weddings were put off in 2020 are now picking back up! She has added senior makeup artists and three assistants to her team because she is busier than ever. She booked 30+ weddings this season including many triple headers (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday of the same week), and even a few mid-week weddings! Moving into 2023 those assistants will become working makeup artists after being trained by Alexi, and her team will be gaining hairstylists to be a full service business.

It’s not all arduous, though. She has had the opportunity to meet and work with stars like Zoey Deschanel on a recent movie, and had an exclusive meet up with The Backstreet Boys. When the band came to town, singer Howie Dorough rented out the patio at her husband, James Beard nominated chef Chad White’s patio at Zona Blanca for a private event for his birthday. She was welcomed to attend, and he gave them a personal invite to the concert (including VIP tickets, backstage access, and seats in the pit!). Talk about living the dream!

Beauty Trend to Watch in 2023 – Baby Botox

For a more youthful skin texture, sometimes going to a trusted professional to address laugh lines and crow’s feet can be an effective way to improve your overall aesthetic. The latest trends all point to loving the skin you’re in and not overdoing it so that you have a more natural look. Less is more! As always, make sure you go to a trusted professional with a stellar reputation. Alexi recommends that if you are looking into botox treatments around Spokane: Melissa and the team at Crafted Beauty as well as Sarah Hamilton of Sarah Hamilton Face are highly trained to provide excellent results.
