Sweater Weather – Fall Fashion in Spokane & More

With the changing of the seasons in the Northwest, I get a touch sentimental. It reminds me of the passage of time, and especially in the fall, the fleeting nature of life. As the leaves descend from the branches of trees years and decades old alike, I stare up in wonder during the grand display and then feel a little colder, a little more alone, when all that greets me are bare branches and frost. Then, I start thinking about what to wear and grab my fanciest coat. There’s just something about boujie outerwear that makes anyone feel like a fashionista.

That’s where the magic of sweater weather makes all the difference. It warms my heart when I find new ways to appreciate the chill in the air and the fading light as I lean into being home more, close to family and friends.

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

Most of all, we all want give you the gift of the excitement that we all feel about sweater weather here at the magazine.

We aren’t yet done being outdoors before the snow flies. Josh Cleveland helps us put the garden to bed with good intentions and extra nutrients that will welcome the fresh growth come spring, Molly Lindquist teaches us about the science behind forest bathing, and Christine Burns spills the tea on all of the best places to check out Octoberfest celebrations around the Northwest, along with the ultimate fall bucket list you will want to save and check off one at a time. Another list you won’t want to miss is by our newest contributor (and Spokane Falls Community College intern extraordinaire) Shaye Hubbard – the most epic list of the best macaroni and cheese from around the Inland Northwest.

Inside your cozy abode we have some ideas that hope will make your shortened days a little more relaxing with nourishing comfort foods with Monika Jacobsen and Kim Lehr gives us her secret turkey dumpling recipe that you’re going to want to make again and again through the colder months. Hailey Keller shares about a spooky family business, Petunia & Loomis, and the genius of local author Travis Baldree, and Madam Stina Rae has some great tips to share about how to practice meaningful self-reflection while we spend more time at home. The images I shared in this letter are by the phenomenally talented Tanya Goodall Smith, who shares about how to create an authentic personal brand using photography. It comes with my emphatic stamp of approval because I’ve had her do branding photography for my own projects!
